Steidl Kambeitz



CRANBROOK

Gerry Kambeitz, Q.C.

Gerry Kambeitz, Q.C. has been a resident of Cranbrook and has practiced law since 1971.   Gerry practices primarily in the areas of Commercial and Corporate law, Real Estate and Development Law and Wills and Estates.  Throughout his more than 35 year career, Gerry has served in numerous capacities including Human Rights Commissioner, Director of the Legal Services Society of B.C., member of the Provincial Council of the Canadian Bar Association, Director of the Continuing Legal Education Society. Currently, Gerry holds the position of Life Bencher of the Law Society of British Columbia and is a member of the Practice Standards Committee and Real Estate Conveyancing Task Force of the Law Society of British Columbia.  He has also served as a Director of the Cranbrook Golf Club and a Trustee of St. Mary’s School.  Outside of his busy practice, Gerry is an avid hockey player in the winter and golfer in the summer.

Ken Steidl, Q.C.

Ken Steidl, Q.C. is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan and has carried on a general practice of law in Cranbrook since being called to the bar in British Columbia in 1972.  His present preferred areas of practice are real estate, foreclosures, family law and criminal law.  Ken has been the elected representative for the Kootenays to the British Columbia Branch of the Canadian Bar Association for three 3-year terms and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2002.  He has coached minor hockey, is a past director for the Cranbrook Curling Club, has been a director of The Friends of Fort Steele Society for over ten years, and has acted as counsel for a number of other boards and organizations in the community.

Natalie L. Hebert, B.A., LL. B.

Natalie received her law degree from the University of Manitoba in 2007 and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2008.  Prior to relocating to the Kootenays, she practiced in Williams Lake, B.C.  Natalie's areas of practice include family law, civil litigation, wills and estates, and real estate.

Natalie feels a strong tie to her community and loves to get involved in community enterprises and events.  During her time in Williams Lake she was a City Councillor, volunteer dance instructor, secretary of the snowmobile club, a member of the Williams Lake Studio Theatre and active in legal community service.  She has recently taken up hunting and cross-country skiing.  In their spare time, Natalie and her husband can be found in the great outdoors with their three dogs, as they enjoy hiking, exploring and relaxing at the lake.  Natalie and her husband are excited to call the East Kootenays home and they look forward to meeting and working with the community.

Michael Prestwich, LL.B.
(Articled Student)

Michael received his law degree from the University of Alberta in 2010 and joined Rockies Law Corporation as an articling student in September of that year. Before going to law school, Michael obtained a degree in Philosophy from the University of Waterloo through distance education while supporting his family working as a school custodian in Williams Lake, BC. In addition to the law, Michael’s interests include science, philosophy, and motorcycles.

Michael and his wife are overjoyed to be in the East Kootenays and are working to establish both their careers and their personal lives in the community. When he’s not in the office, you might find him on the ski hill, a hiking trail, the golf course, the gym, or the open road.

KIMBERLEY

Steve Brine, LL.B.

Steve lives in Kimberley and practices in the areas of Real Estate, Wills & Estates and Business Law. Steve received his law degree from the University of British Columbia in 2004 and was called to the bar in New York State in 2005. After graduation, Steve worked as an associate for a New York law firm primarily in the areas of securities, banking and finance. Steve has now returned to the East Kootenays with his family to enjoy the natural surroundings. He is looking forward to being involved in the community. When he's not in the office, you may see him teaching his two boys to ski on the local hill.

FERNIE

Marko Maryniak, J.D.

Marko received his J.D. degree from the University of Toronto in 1991 and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1992. He has practiced in Victoria, Vancouver and was General Counsel to Wampole Brands Inc., a manufacturer of vitamins and pharmaceutical products.   Marko’s areas of practice include real estate and development law, corporate and securities law, wills and estates, and family law agreements.

Marko is active in the Fernie community, having been a director of the Fernie Hospital Foundation and a Trustee and the Treasurer of the Fernie Heritage Library.  Currently, Marko is an auxiliary firefighter with Fernie Fire Rescue, and a Lecturer and Member of the Board of Governors of the College of the Rockies. In his spare time Marko can be found exploring and enjoying the mountains, whether on a trail, river or ski slope.

Andrew Bird, J.D.

Andrew practices real estate, wills and estates, and civil litigation with an emphasis on contractual disputes, builders liens, and estates litigation. After receiving his Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto in 2006, Andrew returned to British Columbia and was called to the bar in 2007.

Andrew has served as director of a constituency association for the Conservative Party of Canada, and is a current member of the Christian Legal Fellowship and the Mountainside Community Church. Andrew is an avid skier, snowmobiler, and mountain biker, and is proud to call Fernie home.
